We are always looking for feedback on cities where we should host Affiliate Summit, and New York City is routinely a favorite for the east coast.
But we have traditionally gone elsewhere, because our feedback also indicates that attendees don’t want to spend more than $199/night for a hotel room. Since that’s not a realistic range for a block of rooms in NYC, we’re gravitated to other spots.
However, we’ve finally found a nice hotel in New York City (Hilton) that could fit the conference next summer, and they are willing to go down to $269/night for the hotel rooms.
What do you say… does that work for you? We need some feedback ASAP if we want to secure the space.

Miami was still my favorite non Vegas summit.

I would try to go regardless.
However, spending that sort of money on a hotel seems pretty ridiculous to me. It would be one thing if I was on vacation with my girlfriend or family - but I’m attending a conference by myself - also which means besides the little sleep I get each night, I’m barely even in the hotel room.
With hotel taxes and what not, it would come about to ~$900 just in hotel costs. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be worth it, it’s just that if it is anything like ASW I won’t even be in my hotel room most of the time.

I voted no, but then I remembered that we paid more than that per night to stay at the Paris in LV for another trade show we did, so I think we’d do it after further thinking.

Yes, but I’d kick & scream the whole time. Like Jared said, the hotel room is just a clean bed & shower.

I voted yes b/c NY is always a treat.
What about Miami and the Intercontinental hotel? I thought this was a great spot and several other people I know thought so as well.

It’s not just the cost of the hotel room. Everything in New York is so expensive, not because it’s better, just because it’s New York. I’ve stayed at the Hilton before, and it’s very nice, but I’ve never felt safe in that city. And I felt safe at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with 500,000 bikers, including Hell’s Angels!

Doug -
When we conducted a poll last year about East Coast locations, Boston, NYC and other places got a lot more votes than Miami.

When I filled out the survey from ASW for future locations, I think I filled in Boston again.
To me Boston seems like it would be a great location. The city is very nice and everything is really mid priced (especially compared to NYC).
Maybe it is just me since I live in Texas, but the NY east coast inflation they have going on is brutal. Makes Vegas look cheap

Well with a per diem of $124 for lodging, $269 is way out of my range…Let’s go to Miami!

Boston is different (and a fave for me). So is Miami and Orlando. NYC is great, but tends to be a default location for conferences (ahem, as does Vegas) - just think, we’ll be in the Big Apple for ad:tech in under 3 weeks. I like the idea of doing something off the beaten trail.

Don’t suggest ‘off the beaten trail’ too much or we’ll end up in Berkeley Heights, NJ :p

Note to self, don’t invite TrishaLyn to the next BBQ in Berkeley Heights.

If I pretend that I’d actually be able to GO to a BBQ there, I’d be hurt!

Yes to NYC, b/c I can catch a Broadway show. The only AS I’ve been to so far though was in Orlando and I thought that was a great location.

I voted no (because I wouldn’t pay that much), but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t go to an Affiliate Summit there. I definitely would. I love New York. I just wouldn’t stay at the convention hotel. I usually stay across the river in New Jersey (or a cheaper hotel in New York) and take public transportation.

Hey Michael -
Where do you stay in NJ? I’ve had to stay in Jersey City in the past, and the hotels were just as expensive as Manhattan.

There’s nothing like the Big Apple! Have a great weekend.
