    Some excellent and diverse choices.

The weather should encourage indoor networking.

    :)

I’m looking forward to it as always.

All of them are great places with plenty to do at night, just a matter of guessing which place won’t kill you with the heat and humidity! No matter what though I’ll be happy with the outcome.

I like the idea of having the venue in Chicago would make for a nice change. No matter what city Affiliate Summit is hosted in it will be another excellent time!

  • 4 Wade Tonkin // Sep 13, 2007 at 9:20 am

    wow… NYC representing!

People must like $400 hotel rooms :)

Chicago would be cool as well - love the town and it’s esy to get in and outof but the same problem will arise there as with NYC, Boston, or San Fran - way expensive on the hotel cost compared to Vegas or Orlando or Miami in early Hurricane/Humidity season.

It seems like all conferences are in NYC and Vegas now, I for one am totally burned out on both! It would be nice to see a new city and go someplace different for a change, that’s why Miami was nice! While I would love to go to the Virgin Islands, I don’t think I could get that approved…and I have a feeling that would be the same problem for many people. That was one of the issues with Herby’s cruise (gasp…did I say that name).

  • 6 Wade Tonkin // Sep 13, 2007 at 12:58 pm

    Chelsey, you said the “H-Word”

I still have a laugh from time to time thinking of Shawn’s Herby impression from the Missy Roast Video.

Nashville would be fun- different and would have to be more affordable for everyone than Vegas.

I think that Miami was a great choice this year, the show was perfect. NYC is way too expensive, Ad-Tech rooms are $500 a night.

  • 8 Shawn Collins // Sep 13, 2007 at 6:03 pm

    Mico -

Thanks for pointing that out - lots of folks overlook that part when they complain about being in Miami when it’s hot.

You don’t get nice hotels during prime time in Miami for ~ $150 and you pretty much never get good deals in NYC.

  • 9 Jesse Bouman // Sep 14, 2007 at 9:55 am

Miami was great! As many mention, it doesn’t matter where the next one will be held; Affiliate Summit is great any where. If I would have to pick a city, I’d go with Washington, DC (just for a change) but again, what ever the outcome will be, I am sure the show and the networking is more important than the location.

I would love to see Chicago as well, but since it’s “off limits” voted for something else. After voting, I noticed that 15 other people voted for Chicago anyway.

    Hmmmm. Affiliate Summit Central?

  • 11 Shawn Collins // Sep 16, 2007 at 11:00 pm

    > Hmmmm. Affiliate Summit Central?

    No time soon.

  • 12 Teresa Caldwell // Sep 17, 2007 at 10:39 am

Dallas ……. Everything is Bigger in Texas. Even the Affiliate Summit. Just a thought, so many flights have to connect in Dallas anyway. It may save some cost on flights. When I went to Miami, we had to fly from Amarillo to Dallas, then connect to Miami, two different fees on the flights. Many direct flights to Dallas from anywhere. Just a thought !!! Texas is hot, but usually not so humid.

  • 13 Shawn Collins // Sep 17, 2007 at 11:18 am

We’ll be polling about the 2009 West show in the future, but we’re already contracted for Las Vegas as the West Affiliate Summit in 2008.

  • 14 Julie Bridge // Sep 17, 2007 at 12:46 pm

I’d vote for a Chicago or other midwest location also. Sorry to hear it’s not in the works. Chicago DM Days are in April 08 - if any one is interested in having our own impromptu Spring Central Affiliate gathering there, let me know.

It would be amazing if it were held here in Boston! Rooms are relatively cheap ($249 gets you the Charles Hotel right in the middle of Harvard Sq) and we might be able to set up a party over at Fenway (maybe I could help sponsor). The Sox should be way ahead of the Yankees by then so bulk seat buying should be easier. :)

  • 16 Shawn Collins // Sep 17, 2007 at 1:11 pm

If we could get the space (we need a lot for the exhibit hall, breakouts, meals, etc.), I’d love to do Boston - if that comes out the favorite.

I didn’t catch the end of the game last night, did Big Papi save the day with a grand slam or end it with a Big Popout?

  • 17 Debbie Johnsen // Sep 17, 2007 at 3:51 pm

New York is pricey in terms of hotel rooms. But, for us affiliate managers in the NYC area, sometimes it’s tough to expense a plane ticket to Miami and take a few days off. Boston would be a close 2nd choice for me!

  • 18 Wil Reynolds // Sep 17, 2007 at 4:17 pm

No love for the land of cheesesteaks?!

Philly is a good location b/c of train times from
    DC (2 hours)
    NYC (1 hour 15 minutes)
    Baltimore (45 minutes)

Hotels are cheaper than most other cities, and there’s enough fun stuff to do.

Oh and I live here :)
    LOL!

Biases aside, Boston would be nice.

  • 19 Geno Prussakov // Sep 17, 2007 at 5:31 pm

I actually liked the last Miami one. Excellent venue, good show. Yes, a bit hot (hey, it’s Miami!!), but not too bad… NYC or Boston sound great too.

Right now it looks like NYC and Miami (if you add the two Miami poll options together) both have an equal number of votes (34), and Boston is just 2 behind.

Listen, I may be partial here but Miami has the best deal for the volume of people. The Interconti is a world class venue and you can’t touch the room rates, anywhere. Hot, well yes, it’s Miami folks. Dress like a native and you will be fine. AF is a huge confernece, IMO, Shawn and Missy need to find the best venue based on costs to make sure everyone can afford to come down.

    I say my house…. :0)

  • 22 Eric Ewe // Sep 17, 2007 at 6:29 pm

Did I hear Scott and Nunez say Orlando?

When it was in Orlando, lots of people enjoyed Disney and the many world class attractions within a 10 mile radius. The hotels around there are affordable if you are not staying on site.

  • 23 Vinny O'Hare // Sep 17, 2007 at 6:41 pm

I voted for Baltimore, Inner Harbor, Crab cakes, Fells Point, Water Taxi’s, Baja Beach Club, Baseball at Camden Yards.

Actaully I would rather Atlantic city but that’s another story.

  • 24 Billy Kay // Sep 17, 2007 at 7:00 pm

If everyone complains that Florida is too hot in the summer, and I assume Vegas is picked because it doesn’t snow here in the winter… why not swap? Winter in Florida (smaller lines at Disney) and summer in Vegas (you can all actually go swimming!)

  • 25 Rainmaker / Bob // Sep 17, 2007 at 10:46 pm

Yes, it was WAY hot in Miami… but I felt it was a fair trade off for such a great price at the Intercontinental. My biggest gripe was that there was nothing close by (after the parties, or mid-day on the bookend days) that didn’t cost P in cab round trip. Yes there was that “bay” touristy place… but I like experiencing LOCAL stuff that you don’t find anywhere else. Maybe, if you pick Miami, actually place it on South Beach?

  • 26 Shawn Collins // Sep 17, 2007 at 10:53 pm

    > Maybe, if you pick Miami, actually place it on South Beach?

We tried last time - there is no hotel with the square footage we need in South Beach.

  • 27 Jess Luthi // Sep 18, 2007 at 2:57 am

Hotel Intercontinental (miami) was such a great hotel (you have yet to experience the London Hotels, most are crap by contrast, I dunno why, its not like they are cheap)
New York and Boston, both get my vote with NYC having the edge. Also don’t forget they are just a hop away from Europe.

  • 28 Raul Diaz // Sep 21, 2007 at 1:37 pm

What about New Orleans? Yes it’s hot but we’d be supporting a city that still needs so much help.

  • 29 Shawn Collins // Sep 21, 2007 at 2:25 pm

    Raul -

New Orleans has been one of the options since we opened the poll.

  • 30 Raul Diaz // Sep 21, 2007 at 9:39 pm

Ooops sorry Shawn! Guess I was just seconding the notion for New Orleans. But if you need another city, what about Memphis? What was that song? ‘Well I was walking in Memphis……’

  • 31 Jim Kukral // Sep 26, 2007 at 12:19 am

I really thought Nashville would be a blast. I hear it’s a great town to party in. Probably not that expensive either?

NYC?? Bah, who wants to pay that much for a hotel? Great town, but man. How are the rooms in Boston priced?

  • 32 Wade // Sep 26, 2007 at 12:17 pm

From what I understand (If I’m wrong Shawn and Missy, please make note of it ) the most expensive cities in the US hotel room wise are New York, Boston, San Francisco and Chicago.

Boston was a lot of fun extortion wise in terms of union costs, etc at Webmaster World as well… remember Jim?

I think NY and SF are highest.

    What about FOXWOODS? Hello?

  • 36 Shawn Collins // Oct 13, 2007 at 9:37 am

@J. Smith This is a post from over a month ago that includes all of the locations we’ve received as suggestions in previous feedback.

If you look at the post from October 11 on locations on the east coast, you’ll see that we added in Foxwoods as an option.

  • 37 Andrew // Oct 15, 2007 at 8:24 am

I’d like to attend next year and see any of the east coast cities, but the hotel room costs may not allow it. From what I have read about the one this year in Florida, it was a great time. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it…

  • 38 Shawn Collins // Oct 15, 2007 at 8:42 am

@Andrew - we got numerous positive reviews for the conference in Miami, but also a lot of people that didn’t like Miami for a variety of reasons.

So, I think it is fair to say the location is broken for a fair number of people who attend. :-)
