I’ve heard some folks comment that they didn’t attend the latest Affiliate Summit, because they could just get the video and transcripts online after the fact.

Bad news on that front - some of that material was made publicly available from Affiliate Summit 2006 East, because we were testing it as a means to promote the recent show.

But this time around, that content is exclusively for those who attended the conference. It will not be made publicly available in any regard - not even for sale.

There will be some free content up at http://video.affiliatesummit.com/ but not the sessions.

Never thought of it that way, but very true. I could easily see people doing that. Good call leaving it for attendees only, you could also make them available as paid content, because the networking & Q&A’s are extremely valuable as well and that doesn’t happen on video.

I would think a price point around 75% of the ticket cost might be decent. Then again people get recaps by bloggers anyway, so they can always read those if they want free content.

We thought about it as paid content, and have been called names by people who think we’re leaving money on the table.

But I really like to make it a perk for attendees. If they have to be there in person to get one of your fancy see-through business cards, well they’ll have to be there in person to see the Wil magic, too!

Even if the recorded materials were given away free, the main benefit of such conferences is not the learning from attending sessions, but the value of the relationships that you develop by meeting people in person.

When I worked a major airline, some folks were afraid that the rise of videoconferencing and email would reduce flight demand. To the oontrary, the increase in information has grown people’s appetite to travel, meet, and develop relationships. Don’t be afraid to give away content.

And, yes, Wil, your cool see-through business cards are very nice. I was thinking of getting some myself!

That’s great, because I wanted to see Wil’s presentation, as I hear it was highly regarded as one of the highest rated during the show. We didn’t get to meet Wil, but would have loved to. Maybe next time!
