The Affiliate Summit essay contest ended yesterday. We selected over a dozen essay authors to receive a free full conference pass to Affiliate Summit.

Affiliates just had to submit a short essay titled, Why I Want to Go to Affiliate Summit, to qualify.

Here is one of the winning submissions:

I’m a freelance travel journalist averaging six million readers per article, and frankly the newspaper industry is falling apart. Circulation is down, which means my income is too. People are now finding their news and information on the internet. I had to think of how to compete by literally giving my articles and photos away. By giving my articles to online newspapers and blogs in exchange for backlinks to my website, I can now make my income through affiliate programs. I see a whole new business model developing which would be a win/win for everyone; newspapers would receive top quality articles to use in both print and online for free, and journalists would be able to earn a larger income indirectly through affiliate programs. Ultimately this will attract superior journalists back into the industry. Therefore I have been throwing myself into studying the merchant/affiliate process. I would love to attend the Affiliate Summit to bounce this idea off vendors, to network, and to just learn everything I can and get started.
